UK snow forecast MAP: Polar air to bring -9C deep freeze – Latest weather forecast –

Temperatures are expected to dip well below freezing on Monday as polar air nears the UK. Temperatures in the south of England are due to plummet to -3C, while the north could see it dip to -9C. The cold weather is a result of a 400-mile wide “Arctic swell”.

The forecast has forced the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for ice.

The alert went into affect on Sunday night and will end at 10am on Monday morning.

Regions and local authorities affected are Highlands and Eilean Siar and Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands.

The weather agency warns a “risk of icy surfaces leading to difficult driving conditions on Monday morning.”

The Met Office added: “Scattered heavy showers will fall onto freezing surfaces overnight and Monday morning.

“These could wash off any surface treatment and lead to the formation of icy surfaces.”

In addition, Britain will be hit by more flooding as heavy rain is expected to fall on Tuesday.

The wet weather will sweep in from the west, with other parts including the already flood-hit Yorkshire affected from Thursday.

“Snow showers could be seen on higher ground of Scotland, with a bit of snow over northern England.

“Daytime maximums will be 7-9C for most to start the week, easing to 12C in the South from midweek as the flow turns southerly, but still only 7-10C in the North.
